Objectives: Students will gain an understanding of how plants respond to their environment and changes in their environment. They will understand the structures and how they function in reproduction, plant support, transportation of water and food.
Unit 5 includes 8 days of science lesson plans!
- Day 1: Plant Structures
- Day 2: Plant Survival
- Day 3: Plant Reproduction
- Day 4: Plant Responses
- Day 5: Plant Classification
- Day 6: Lab Activity
- Day 7: Review with Passage and Crossword Puzzle
- Day 8: Unit Assessment
Each daily lesson and its resources are color coded making it easy to know what to use each day.
Day 1: Plant Structures
Let’s get to the root of it and discover the parts of a plant and their unique functions. Students will become familiar with how each structure helps a plant live and grow.
Day 2: Plant Survival
Guide your students to understand how plants sustain themselves and produce their own food. By the end of this lesson, they will know the photosynthesis cycle and what plants need to make food.
Day 3: Plant Reproduction
Plants continue to reproduce and create new plants. Learn the cycle of seeds and how they are released. Students will understand that different seeds need different conditions to germinate.
Day 4: Plant Responses
Like us, plants react when their environment changes. How do plants respond to light, heat, gravity, and cold temperatures? By the end of this lesson, students will know the answers to these questions.
Day 6: Lab Activity
Marble run! Get hands-on and put the Scientific Method to work with changing heights to increase potential and kinetic energy. Select three different heights and test it out to see which height gets the marble to the finish line the fastest!
Day 7: Review with Passage and Crossword Puzzle
Students will put together all of the vocabulary and skills acquired from this unit. Read the passage and answer the following questions. Vocabulary words are reviewed in a crossword puzzle.
Day 8: Unit Assessment
Give your students a chance to show what they have learned over the past six days.
