Putting Multiplication Memorization on Your List
Multiplication practice doesn’t have to be intimidating! Use these fun Digital Color by Code activities to help students master their multiplication facts. They are available as Google Forms which means they are paperless and self-grading!
Benefit 1: Math Comes Easier
Math builds on itself, which is why things like spiral review are so important. We not only want our students to become proficient at math, we want them to become efficient as well. If students know automatically that 6×7 equals 42, problems with multiple steps become easier to do. When these steps become second nature, you can go deeper into the world of math and help your students fly high!
Benefit 2: Time is Of the Essence
While not everything is about testing, a lot of teacher lives are dominated by it. This is just a simple, unfortunate fact. Many tests that we take are timed. When students are not able to do basic math steps quickly, our tests scores can reflect that. While your third graders might be far away from the ACT or SAT, teaching them speed young can help them in the future. In addition, you only have so much time in a day. You can accomplish more and get further in your math curriculum when students have speed on their side.
Benefit 3: Create Math Magicians
Math is sometimes an area that students struggle with. If you put a focus on multiplication memorization, you are creating a group of students who can be confident in their math abilities. When students express they don’t “like” something, like a certain subject, it’s most often because they don’t feel confident in their abilities. You can help combat math shyness by giving students the skills and confidence to go forth and conquer!
How Does It Work?
Think of this as a digital color by code activity. Students answer the multiple choice questions. If the answer is correct, boxes are automatically colored and the mystery picture starts to appear. If the answer is incorrect, students will be prompted to go back and try again.
