This teacher-led small group activity includes a printable math mat and 16 editable task cards designed to help students understand the four forms of numbers up to billions. Students will build, read, and write numbers in standard, word, expanded, and unit form, identifying the place and value of each digit.
Students will:
• Write numbers in standard, word, expanded, and unit form
• Identify and compare place and value of digits within large numbers
• Explain how zeroes act as placeholders
• Describe relationships between digits across different places (10 × greater / 10 × less)
• Apply skills to read and write multi-digit numbers to 1 billion
