This teacher-led small-group activity includes a printable math mat (two versions: open model space and base-10 block model) and 16 editable task cards that guide students through building, representing, and converting fractions and decimals.
Students will:
• build fraction and decimal models using tenths and hundredths
• use base-10 blocks or shading to represent values
• convert between fractions and decimals using visual models
• write equivalent fractions using tenths and hundredths
• identify mixed numbers and fractions greater than 1
• analyze digit value to explain why some numbers can or cannot be written using tenths
• justify equivalence using models, equations, and place-value reasoning
