This teacher-led small-group activity includes a printable math mat (with classification boxes and equation space) and 12 editable task cards that guide students in composing and decomposing fractions with fraction strips or tiles.
Students will:
• build models of fractions less than 1, equal to 1, greater than 1, and mixed numbers
• decompose fractions and mixed numbers into collections of unit fractions and other addends
• identify fractions represented by a set of addends and rewrite the value using a different decomposition
• classify each fraction by its value and record matching addition equations
