Multiplication and division are the cornerstone of 3rd grade mathematics instruction. This 3rd Grade Guided Math Curriculum starts the year with these important concepts and skills to emphasize their importance in the learning priorities for 3rd grade.
The Multiplication & Division Unit start with very basic multiplication concepts and move from concrete to more abstract with plenty of practice and support over time. Organized into 7 comprehensive Mini-Units, students will have multiple opportunities to engage with the concepts, practice with hands-on materials, work independently, and demonstrate their understanding.
This unit incorporates important properties of number and operations that will be the foundation for success in the future. Attributes of numbers and number patterns are examined regularly, incorporated in the curriculum as seamlessly as they need to be incorporated into students’ knowledge bases. And of course there is plenty of practice, practice, practice! Fluency with multiplication and division facts and a deep understanding of inverse relationships will help students operate with confidence.
This unit includes 34 individual lessons with hands-on activities and independent practice. Exit tickets for each lesson and 7 Mini-Unit Quick Checks will help you track student learning and progress. A formative Unit Assessment will help you understand your students’ mastery of the material and plan your next steps.
